چکیده
To describe and compare patient blood management (PBM) practices in cardiac surgery nine European countries identify the main risk factors for bleeding or transfusion according to surveyed centres. We set up an online survey evaluate PBM two clinical scenarios, transfusion, previous experience with antifibrinolytics. This was completed by anesthesiologists 2019. No patients were included survey. None. evaluated degree of implementation undergoing surgery. Ninety-eight 177 responses (38%) complete variable response rates country. In a non-emergent situation, no respondents would transfuse red cells preoperatively anaemic patient, while cell salvage (89%) antifibrinolytics (82%) almost always be used. Optimization Hemoglobin level (36%) use off-pump techniques (34%), minimally invasive (25%) relatively recently-developed CPB technologies such as mini-bypass (32%) autologous priming (38%), varied greatly across countries. emergent topical haemostatic agents frequently used (61%). Tranexamic acid (72%) aprotinin (20%) used, method administration dose varying markedly Five considered increase at least 90% respondents: pre-operative anaemia, prior surgery, clopidogrel 5 days less before other P2Y12 inhibitors any point, thrombocytopenia <100.109 platelets/mm3. guidelines are not universally implemented centres countries, resulting discrepancies products given situation.

How good patient blood management leads to excellent outcomes in Jehovah's witness patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
OBJECTIVES The refusal of blood products makes open-heart surgery in Jehovah's witnesses (JW) an ethical challenge. We demonstrate how patient blood management strategies lead to excellent surgical outcomes. METHODS From 2003 to 2008, 16 JW underwent cardiac surgery at our institution. Only senior surgeons performed coronary revascularization (n=6), valve (n=6), combined (n=1) and aortic surg...

blood supplied by the central Dutch blood bank to our blood bank has decreased. This leads to less general requests for blood donation and consequently to a decrease in the costs. In our study [2], we have shown that blood was available within 20 min of ordering it for all patients who needed blood transfusion intraoperatively. Without this logistic convenience, this program would not have been...
